NETTLES in Apple Cider Vinegar
Urtica dioica, the stinging nettle! Perhaps you have encountered this one in the wild by the welts its leaves gave you when you got too close. Nettle leaves are covered in tiny hairs embedded with the same venom that ants inject. It is considered one of the strongest boundary herbs for this reason (along with poison ivy!). It is associated with the fiery planet Mars. ("Urtication," or flogging with Nettles, is an old remedy for chronic rheumatism and loss of muscular power.)
Once tinctured, cooked, or steamed in a tea, the leaves are safe to ingest. Nettles are extremely high in iron. Many herbalists we know consume nettles each day for its blood building properties. It is a nervine, which means that it has a calming effect on the nervous system, so it is a good remedy for folks with chronic anxiety.
It is also beneficial for the kidneys, hormone support, allergies, and can be used as a diuretic.
